I was moving wet clothes into the drier at a local laundromat when I spotted a friend across the street. As I started to text her, a man walked by, turned to face me, grabbed himself and said (in Spanish), "If you want some, you just have to ask." Which is pretty vulgar, of course, and is exactly the sort of experience that makes my grandmother lament my living in the city again.
What it made me think about is perspective: how difficult it is to take someone else's and how powerful a force our own can be in shaping the way we experience the real. So I'm going to try to write something from this man's perspective. If the piece works, I'll post it here. (If it doesn't work, I may post it here anyway.)
[Unfortunately this picture is not my own. It was taken by Australian photographer Narelle Autio. More work here: http://www.in-public.com/NarelleAutio/gallery/75]
