people like to say salsa

I started taking Salsa lessons at the University of Chicago last night.

I jumped in the middle of the series to be able to take classes with T and J, so it was a good challenge to learn what had already been taught and to figure out the new moves, too.

Afterwards, J remarked that dancing made one so vulnerable. All of you out there, potentially messing up, getting sloppy, or being really awkward.

Last night I was thinking about how usually body vulnerability is a female thing. But as I switched partners around the room, I danced with a man with one hand as small as a child's—something you can't hide when you're dancing Salsa. His vulnerabilities and his choice to dance anyway seemed really brave and hopeful.
