quotidian microfiction

This month I'll be posting original short short stories based (loosely) on the Bingo-like Mexican game, loterĂa, once a day.

Read them here.

I'm using the more traditional cards with the stories, but people have been doing some interesting reimagining of the artwork, too, which you should see. One example here.

lisa,
have you ever played the blessed game?

i had some kids w/family in mexico in my youth group long ago, and they brought me a copy. every so often we would break it out and play it.

ah the joy. the humor of el borracho. and the racism of characters like el negrito.

yeah, i've got a copy of the game, too. though, i admit that when i failed to drum up much excitement among the friends, i took the scissors to it and used it in an art project.

and my el corazon went missing right away, leaving me heartless.

i was planning to skip the piece on el negrito, but maybe he warrants some kind of response. perhaps something about the casta paintings?
